06:30 PM - 08:00 PM, 29 Aug 2013: Leslie Talks Media Ethics at The Melbourne Free University
Media ethics is not just about the do’s and don'ts for individual reporters and editors, but encompasses the way in which the fourth estate sees itself, and the way the role is defined in liberal democratic states.
In this talk, Leslie will canvass the codes of ethics that govern the Australian media, the reaction of the press to regulatory reform in the wake of Britain’s Hacked Off scandal, the role of whistle-blowing and shield laws in defending public interest journalism and the ethical challenges the networked fourth estate poses to the values of older media players.
