06:30 PM - 08:00 PM, 25 Jul 2013: Leslie to give Sir John Monash Lecture
What an honour! Leslie joins previous lecturers Adam Elliot, Richard Frankland, satirist Bryan Dawe and writer Tony Birch on the list of those asked to present the prestigious annual Sir John Monash Lecture.
Leslie will speak on the Image of Women. How are Australian men and women made? How does Australia’s unique brand of masculinity and femininity shape modern feminism and the battles over equal pay, abortion and paid parental leave that won’t go away?
The City of Monash, which sponsors the lecture along with Vic Health and Monash Link Community Health, is a strong advocate for the empowerment of women. The lecture is seen as an excellent opportunity to advocate for gender equality and respect for women in our society.
Other speakers include the Director of Monash Gallery of Art, who will examine the life and work of one of Australia’s great feminist photographers, Carol Jerrems, whose work will be on exhibit at the gallery.
Where: Monash Gallery of Art, 860 Ferntree Gully Rd, Wheelers Hill (Cnr Jels Rd) Time: 6:30-8:00ish
