06:30 PM - 08:00 PM, 13 May 2015: Leslie to interview "Quiet Inquisition" film-maker Alessandra Zeka
Come see the Australian premier of The Quiet Inquisition, a documentary about abortion in Nicaragua by Alessandra Zeka and Holen Sabrina Kahn (Spanish with English Subtitles)
Nicaragua is one of five countries where it is illegal to terminate a pregnancy, even in instances of rape, incest, or to save the mother’s life. Leading OBGYN, Dr. Carla Cerrato, is constantly faced with this dilemma, as she risks persecution daily by honouring her medical and moral obligations. This compelling documentary expertly handles a highly contested issue with a humanistic and brave perspective.
This film has been exempt from classification and is restricted to people over 18 years. After it’s debut screening at the Human Rights Arts Film Festival, Leslie will interview Alessandra Zeka to explore the relevance of the film’s themes to women’s struggle to obtain legal, safe, affordable and accessible abortion services in Australia.
